Abigail Gibbs is a young, young (round 20y/o) author who debuted her first novel March of last year (2013). Her series the Dark Heroine started with her novel Dinner With A Vampire.
“The Dark Heroine: Dinner with a Vampire, the debut novel from Abigail Gibbs, is a thrilling paranormal novel set in London with unforgettable characters and haunting romance. When party girl Violet Lee stumbles upon the charming and wicked vampire Kaspar Varn, she embarks on a dangerous adventure through London’s darkest streets and poshest neighborhoods. As their attraction isundeniable, the pair succumb to their desires, but at what cost?” (bio from Amazon)
There are two bios because I think both highlight the book well.
“For Violet Lee, a chance encounter on a darkened street draws her into a world beyond her wildest imaginings, a timeless place of vast elegance and immeasurable wealth – of beautiful mansions and lavish parties – where a decadent group of friends live for pleasure alone. A place from which there is no escape…no matter how hard Violet tries.
Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.
Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price…” (bio from good reads).
If you enjoy a good vampire book then this is the one for you. I myself am picky when it comes to these stories but Gibbs hits it right with her depiction. Kaspar is ruthless and, in my opinion, a genuine vampire that is blood thirsty.
Gibbs demonstrates a deep plot that is constantly wrapping itself deeply within the story. It seemed like it took me forever to read her fist book because sooooo much stuff happened I had to make sure and read it slowly so I was keeping up. Some would find this concerning and confusing but Gibbs does it in a way that is complex yet beautifully told AND YOU WILL NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN.
Kaspar and Violet will slip their way into your heart as their relationship develops. Both characters are VERY strong individually but when they are together they could easily rip his castle to shreds.
Gibbs leaves us hanging, in a way, at the end of Dinner With A Vampire. But you do not have to wait long, her second novel in the Dark Heroine series, Autumn Rose released this year in January. I am currently making my way, ever so slowly, through it so look for a post some time soon.
