Captivated By You

Over the course of the past four years or so, Sylvia Day has published many books.  Ones that have made the headlines most,  is her Crossfire Series.  Her most recent release is the fourth book, from Crossfire Series, Captivated By You.

Captivated by You

Goodreads Book Bio

While reading through this series some of you have seen my reactions previously in my reviews: Bared To YouReflected In YouEntwined With YouI am happy to report that I am finally rooting for Gideon and Eva.  Before Captivated By You I have never in my life hated two characters together as much as these two.  There lack of common sense was astounding.  However, the devotion that Gideon and Eva share toward one another is a beautiful thing.

Day has done an amazing job of taking her readers on crazy roller coasters.  From anger to finally happiness Day makes it worth while.  More importantly, Day brings up an interesting topic.  Both Gideon and Eva suffer from hard beginnings in life.  As a result both regularly attend therapy.  I am a supporter of therapy but most of all I am a huge supporter of communication whether it be with a professional, friends, family, or loved ones.  Overall, communication is the only thing that will bring trust and honesty as well as serenity to your life.  Gideon and Eva have bad communication, well technically Gideon haha but its an overall problem. Please, definitely check out the Crossfire Series because Captivated By You makes the series worth. I am ready for the next installment.

Dirty Rowdy Thing

Any time Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings (also known as Christina Lauren) releases a book I FREAK! And every time that happens I feel silly but after I read the new release I realize why I freaked in the first place because DAMN! they’re books are great!  The newest release of this dynamic duo is Dirty Rowdy Thing, book 2 of the Wild Seasons series.

“From the New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Bastard, Beautiful Stranger, and Beautiful Player, Book Two of the brand-new Wild Seasons series that started with Sweet Filthy Boy—a story of friends, love, and lust.

Despite their rowdy hookups, Harlow and Finn don’t even like each other…which would explain why their marriage lasted only twelve hours. He needs to be in charge and takes whatever he wants. She lives by the Want-something-done? Do-it-yourself mantra. Maybe she’s too similar to the rugged fisherman—or just what he needs.”

After reading  Sweet Filthy Boy I was so ready for the next installment of Wild Seasons.  Patiently waiting till November my patience was worth it.  Hobbs and Billings had me laughing and for the first time tearing up.

The story follows a couple who both are quite the rowdy pair.  With steamy, steamy, steamy, pages that burned my fingers this book does not disappoint.

However, this book to me was a little different from the other that Hobbs and Billings has graced us with.  Though Sweet Filthy Boy was easily relatable with its topic of not being defined by your past and living outside of your over thinking head, Dirty Rowdy Thing hits very, very close to home with me.   I myself am the type of person who likes control and prefers to do things myself.  With that being said, Finn and Harlow are great examples of headstrong people.  And you might learn a thing of two.

Definitely check it out for yourself!

While shopping in target I have seen the book titled Wallbanger now for what seems like an eternity.  I was so intrigued by the title alone I had to read it…AND I am so glad I did!

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

“The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she’s gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor’s nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly…

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight…” (goodreads book bio)

Wallbanger involves Caroline (loved that cause well that’s MY name) and Simon on there journey of anger, sexual tension, to love and contentment.  Caroline is an honest open character that is a great perspective viewing of Simon.  He himself is a very complex idea of modern relationships and a deeper understanding of a person who learns as he goes just like all of us. The book takes you on a love journey as well as a journey around the world and all over the kitchen (I wanna cook ALL of those dishes Caroline made!)  So please please check this book out!  And when you think you want more luckily there is a sequel, Rusty Nailed, which I have just started…

Amy Adams happy and excited

Alice Clayton has quickly become one of my favs. With fresh, quirky, and modern, relating tales you will enjoy her as well!  Each character generates a real atmosphere that you could easily meet on the street.  With humor that had me laughing out loud I will coming back for more!

Entwined With You

IT IS FINISHED.  That’s right I have finally finished the Crossfire Series (technically a while ago but I’m just now getting to blog it).  Like most individuals, when one comes to the end of something whether it is a movie, journey, or book series there is a sense of contentment, oneness that is calming and relaxing.  Day does NOT allow this feeling!  But before I get ahead of myself let me give you the bio.

Entwined with You

“From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…” (goodreads book bio).

Now, back to my rant before…Day does NOT allow this feeling!  **SPOILER** with Entwine To You‘s abrupt end I was like…

SNL gifs photo: whenbrucewilliswasdead.gif

However I will say this, this couple has had me on a roller coaster of anger, “aw,” “oh my god,” and “whaaaaaat.”  And I loved every minute.  This series just keeps going and going.  Not to mention the amount of personal destruction Eva and Gideon bring on themselves is astounding!  Like I said in my Bared To You post these two are terrible for one another and personally should just give up.  Entwined In You, is like a horny teenager that gives there parents a scary ultimatum that love is for real and nothing will keep them apart.  The books are fun and will easily suck you in because YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT TROUBLE THEY ARE GOING TO CAUSE.  Day is a smart writer and these books are full of emotion and depth that will have a reader wanting more.  Entwined In You ends without a hint of conclusion and resolve but Day mentions that Gideon and Eva are not through…I SHOULD SUSPECT SO!

“From the moment I first saw him— saw through his stunning and impossibly gorgeous exterior to the dark and dangerous man inside— I’d felt the pull that came from finding the other half of myself. I needed him like I needed my heart to beat, and he’d put himself in great jeopardy, risking everything— for me.”

Reflected In You

Back at the beginning of August I posted about Sylvia Day’s Bared To You so now allow me to continue the rest of the series with the second Crossfire book Reflected In You.

Reflected in You (Crossfire, #2)

“Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession” (good reads book bio).

Similar to the first, Reflected In You continued as before.  My previous post I said that I hated this couple but fooled you all with OH I WAS KIDDING.  And this is still true.  Gideon and Eva continue to be horrible for one another however, there are some small strides made to fix each other because of their broken past.  Things become even more complicated and tensions rise between and around them.  It is a literal ROLLER COASTER Day takes you on with an old flame from Eva’s past who is just as determined as Gideon.

With an abrupt end I can only hope there is some revolution on the last novel to tie some of this chaos together.  I see you Day, I see what you’re playing at and it makes a great read! So don’t give up continue to get sucked in by Gideon and Eva, they do not disappoint.

Here are some teasing quotes to get you hooked by mere sentences: Reflected In You Quotes

Taking It All

I apologize for not posting this way sooner since I finished it forever ago.  However, new class schedule, work, plus small travels life got a little hectic.  But here it is now!

Taking It All (Surrender Trilogy, #3)

“Chessy and Tate have been married for several years. In the beginning, their relationship was everything she wanted. Passionate. All consuming. She offered her submission freely and Tate cherished her gift with a tenderness that made her feel safe. Content. Wanted. And loved beyond all measure. But as the years have gone by, Tate has become more immersed in making his business the success it has become, and Chessy has taken a back seat to his business obligations. Growing unhappier with the status of their once blissful marriage, Chessy knows that something has to give. Or they stand to lose it all

Tate loves his wife. Has always loved her. Providing for her has always been his number one priority. But lately she’s seemed unhappy, and he’s worried. Worried enough that he arranges for a night together that he hopes will reignite the fire that once burned like an inferno between them.

But a business call at the wrong time threatens everything. Chessy’s safety, his concentration, his wife’s faith in him as her husband, a man sworn to love and protect her above all else. Gutted with the realization that he’s going to lose her—has already lost her—he readies for the fight of his life. Whatever it takes, he’ll get her back. And prove to her that nothing is more important than her love. And that if she’ll allow him to prove himself one more time, he’ll take it all. Everything. But he’ll give far more back. Himself. His undying love” (good reads book bio)

Maya Banks’ final installment in her Surrender Trilogy brings everything together with a nice little bow.  With appearances of characters from Letting Go and Giving In this third novel does not disappoint.

Personally, I have never read a book that followed an already married couple.  I more often read the first-meeting and fall-in-love-then-get-married kind.  So this was new.

This change of pace brought on a new understanding of Romance for me.  Like many people say when married, “never stop dating” it is nothing but true.  While Chessy and Tate struggle to reconnect  they are hit with tough blows that bring them almost to call it quits.  But like every strong willed man Tate fights for his wife and the love he knows is there. With rekindling of steamy love and emotions flying high Chessy and Tate will have you easily reading this book in 24 hours.  But most of all Banks’ uses Chessy and Tate to remind us that life needs to slow down in order for us to not forget one another.  This book will have you a lil teary eyed and angry at some of the crazy things that happen.  So go grab a copy and see how it all ends!

Be on the look out for Banks’ new series: Slow Burn.  Coming our way in October!

Bared To You

I realize that I am a lil behind on reading this one but, it has occurred now so yeaaah.  Author Sylvia Day has been writing for some time and has received some great recognition for her works.  I don’t know why it took me so long to finally pick up one of her books but I finally have.

Bared To You, book one from the Crossfire Series, has been an interesting journey for me as a Romance reader and “enjoyer.”

Bared to You (Crossfire, #1)

“Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as i prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…” (good reads book bio).

Like every good Romance novel that centers around a hot billionaire there comes certain appeal, and this one sounded awesome.  However, much to my odd understanding, I had heard roomers that some arguing was going around.  Giving the time that Bare To You made it release I should have known sooner that it was coming up in the shadow of Fifty Shades. So for a while I refused to read a similar story.  As much as I refused, I kept seeing it just chilling there glistening against the fluorescent lights of every book store… I could see it mocking me, calling my name.  I gave in, which is why I am here now writing this post.  It’s quite funny actually, I am currently in the third of the series but am just now able to blog because I have been trying to think for so long, “How am I gonna write this one?!”

To be honest, and I can’t believe I am going to say this now, I hated it! (please, read post all the way through) I MEAN WHAT!? Let me explain. This hardly ever happens because I normally get so engrossed in the text that I am emotionally involved.  And as the story began and characters developed I became angrier and angrier, you could almost say I became CROSS (haha), I digress,  at Gideon and Eva that I wanted to slap them.  Never in my life have I ever wanted two characters to just call it quits because they are terrible for each other.

Let me paint it this way.  *Some possible SPOILERS, maybe!*

Gideon and Eva meet>instant connection= “sounds good”

They want each other>play hard to get= “i like it”

Give in>steamy hot banging= “love it”

She wants more he doesn’t>they compromise= “how mature of them”

He keeps secrets and is bat shit crazy>she is jealous, a lil bitchy, and has secrets of her own>they argue and talk in circles= “I’M GONNA PULL MY HAIR OUT!”

These two are overwhelming and should just quit.  They do great for a lil then fliippin Eva says or brings up something that pisses Gideon off and they argue…again.  Oh! and of course Eva is SOOOOO attracted to Gideon that when they are arguing about their both very dark just sick past that she still wants to bang him.  Girl, keep it in your pants.  I have found too what makes me so angry is how Gideon will say something sweet, while arguing, and Eva will be like “oh my god he so cares” and completely forget about the serious issue at hand, and he wins.  Girl, keep you head on.  I mean never in my life have I LOVED TWO CHARACTERS MORE!  Haha! BAM! Had you fooled!

What I have been forgetting is that, while reading, my emotion doesn’t have to be happy or completely in “Aw” of a novel and it’s characters.  It is how I am reacting to it in general!  Anger is an emotion, annoyance is an emotion.  I learned what they were like and how they operate and found myself saying, “Oh my god, way to go Eva, that is just like you…”

This book and characters has been an almost new revaluation for me, in the perception of books.  I mean I know books can make laugh, cry, mad, and happy but this perception is different.  Bared To You‘s title is fitting due to characters connection but also the readers connection to them in return.  You can’t run!  They will suck you in and you will continue your journey with them no matter how angry you become.

(As for Fifty Shades there are some SMALL similarities (billionaire, dominance, secrets) but it is nothing alike in my personal opinion.  Different perception and characters.)

I am very impressed with Day’s writing development of Gideon and Eva.  How easily related can there relationship be?  How often do men sometimes do the worst in the relationships?  And how often to women become overly jealous and bitchy?  Not only that but Day has packed so much into one text that the books pick up right at the end of the other and it just continues to roll taking you with it.  Kudos to Day and Bared To You.

Beautiful Oblivion

Jamie McGuire has done it again! Her newest novel Beautiful Oblivion has set a new standard for me.

Beautiful Oblivion (Maddox Brothers, #1)

“The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille “Cami” Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again” (good reads book bio).

I fell in love with Beautiful Disaster and would have never thought that I could enjoy another set of characters as much as I did Travis and Abby BUT I was WRONG.  Trent and Cami are a beautiful couple.  And I might love there story more than Travis and Abby which is a shocker.  Trent and Cami are both straight forward honest, what-you-is-what-you-get people; they allow readers to relate easily causing their story to invade your life like you are living it.

LIKE ALWAYS, McGuire writes perfectly. This time she ends with an amazing twist that I honestly did not see coming at all!  I read the last page and screamed!  With some similarity to Travis and Abby’s progression McGuire uses Trent to make a note of said similarity which brings humor adding to a new uniqueness that is Trent and Cami.  With many new lovable characters and a door busting wide upon for the other Maddox boys I am ready to see the next installment of these crazy love stories,

I was not, however, expecting Beautiful Oblivion to be told by Cami’s perspective.  It would make since to continue in the same fashion as Beautiful Disaster began this journey.  I’m hoping MAYBE Oblivion will written from Trent’s perspective if we are indeed to follow in Disaster’s footsteps.  We can only hope.

An overall kudos to McGuire for writing another beautiful piece that had us gripped with every word on every page.  I love Trent and Cami and am looking forward to the next Maddox adventure.

P.S.- I also really want “baby doll” tattooed on my fingers…

The Red Diary

Last year after I finished 50 Shades, Beautiful Disaster, Banks’ Sweet Series and other big releases that took the romance reading women of the world by storm, I felt lost.  I still wanted something that was just as good but was not having luck.  In hopes of finding something to occupy my reading time I trotted off to the book store prepared to journey through the endless stacks.

I was however not prepared to find an older romance novel that was tucked away in the “pocket romance novels” you know, the ones you see little old women reading with the masculinity sexual over eccentric covers.  Well one caught my eye because it looked nothing like that HAHA.

The book was Toni Blake’s The Red Diary

“When Nick Armstrong finds the red diary, he’s shocked…and aroused. Here, in intimate detail, prim and proper Lauren Ash records her most secret fantasies. He knows he should never read it again, but the temptation is too hard to resist. Never before has he come across anything so private-or so sensual. Never before has he found such a potent weapon for righting an old wrong.

His strategy: seduce her, make her fall in love, then break her heart. He’ll be her dream lover in the flesh, weaving an erotic spell to free the passionate woman inside her. But Lauren is casting her own tantalizing magic, forcing him to let go of the past and surrender to her body and soul” (good reads book bio).

Nick and Lauren are your generic Romance couple.  When you think Romance novel you think them.  Their relationship is steamy and somewhat forbidden but it is an enjoyable journey.

Blake originally published in, I believe, 2004 but refurbished and released in 2013.  Bringing that original Romance feel and adding some realistic formality Blake delivers a great read with a steamy connection and a small amount of tension and action that makes The Red Diary a fun read that should satisfy!

I have currently picked up another one of her books that I will venture to later.  But take a look and check out The Red Diary for yourself.
