“OVERdue”- ZZ Ward

There are so many things that I love in this world, chocolate chip pancakes, ricotta cheese, movies, knitting, scarves BUT there is one thing that just drops me to my knees and that one thing is a strong female especially a strong female song with a bad ass beat!

There are many types of genres that women have gotten really good at and one in particular it that jazzy, rock, possibly bluesy type.  An artist by the name of ZZ Ward has a song that I was introduced to some time ago but recently fell back in love with.  “OVERdue” is a hard rock, bluesy beat that talks about a relationship that is over and she has moved on.

Her lyrics are straight forward poem that produces a final say every female has showed one time or another.

“Open up your dirty eyes, look what you did,
Let me see your filthy hands, I caught ’em red,
I can smell the bullshit on your breath,
Got it written from your toes to your neck,
Baby, let the venom sink into your chest,
Tryin’ to play me like a pawn, that’s what you get,
Get up off your knees, bitch, no need to beg,I don’t want you back, back,
I don’t want you back,
Better hit the road, road,
Like your name was Jack,
Call me on the phone, phone,
I won’t call you back,
You should be alone, how do you like that?

Laugh it off, boy, I’m a lunatic,
Laugh it all the way till the truth sinks in,
Laugh it off, boy, till your teeth fall out,
Till your head just breaks,
Till your eyes fall down, down, down,

It’s over to the left,
Over to the right,
Over through the day,
Over through the night,
I’m over, over, over you,
Boy, this over’s overdue,

It’s over to the left,
Over to the right,
Over through the day,
Over through the night,
I’m over, over, over you,
Boy, this over’s overdue,

It’s over to the left,
Over to the right,
Over through the day,
Over through the night,
I’m over, over, over you,
Boy, this over’s overdue,

It’s over to the left,
Over to the right,
Over through the day,
Over through the night,
I’m over, over, over you,
Boy, this over’s overdue,

I’m over, over, over you.”

Afraid

There is a song out currently that I am obsessed with it.  Besides the awesome sound, I love the lyrics!  The song is called “Afraid” by The Neighbourhood.  Take a look at the lyrics.  If it bothers you, sorry for the language but I wanted to keep the words to the original.

“Afraid”

When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might take my place
When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might take my place

Paid that money, fake that dummy, ache my tummy
On the fence, all the time
Paid junk honey, face so sunny, ain’t that funny
All my friends always lie to me
I know they’re thinking

You’re too mean, I don’t like you, fuck you anyway
You make me wanna scream at the top of my lungs
It hurts but I won’t fight you
You suck anyway
You make me wanna die, right when I

When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might take my place [x3]
When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might end up being me

Keep on dreaming, don’t stop breathing, fight those demons
Sell your soul, not your whole self
If they see you when you’re sleeping, make them leave it
And I can’t even see if it’s all there anymore so

You’re too mean, I don’t like you, fuck you anyway
You make me wanna scream at the top of my lungs
It hurts but I won’t fight you
You suck anyway
You make me wanna die, right when I

When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might take my place [x3]
When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might end up being me

Being me can only mean
Feeling scared to breathe
If you leave me then I’ll be afraid of everything
That makes me anxious, gives me patience, calms me down
Lets me face this, let me sleep, and when I wake up (I wake up, I wake up)
Let me be

When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might take my place [x3]
When I wake up I’m afraid, somebody else might end up being me.

These words are quite powerful when you break them down.  I immediately think of individuals who have a harder time fitting in.  Our society tells us the uniqueness is new, fresh but the problem is society wants us to all be similar and follow certain roles, uniqueness is no longer unique.  However, not everyone is the same so where do they fit in?  When someone is uncomfortable in their own skin then they generate self doubt within themselves.  But the one thing that society does not push strongly is self love and self worth.  It makes me sad when I see little boys or little girls talk down to themselves about not being adequate or up to societies “standards” or even someone’s standards.  Now, you can argue that some pop singers or other celebrities are taking control and modeling self love by their actions but if that model is something sexual what message is that sending to young girls and young boys.  In order to not step on anyone’s toes, you can generate your own self love in whatever way you want but remember that self love is you and the view of yourself, but it is also how others see you love yourself.  Don’t let someone demand who you who are, don’t let someone take your place be your own place.  Love yourself and give yourself that self love and self worth you deserve.  Don’t be scared of yourself its just you and you’ve known yourself your whole life!

AH! I love music and it’s many messages we can get from it! ❤

I Wish I Was The Moon

Shortly ago I came across this song by Neko Case.  I have never heard of this singer before until I was watching True Blood and discovered it as the episodes title from season 4 and it’s ending credit song.  (Now, I love me some True Blood and believe they have a great soundtrack for every episode.  So you might see True Blood incorporated in the Song Lyrics category.)

The song is titled “I Wish I Was The Moon.”

Chimney falls and lovers blaze
Thought that I was young
Now I’ve freezing hands and bloodless veins
As numb as I’ve becomeI’m so tired
I wish I was the moon tonight

Last night I dreamt I had forgotten my name
‘Cause I had sold my soul but awoke just the same
I’m so lonely
I wish I was the moon tonight

God blessed me, I’m a free man
With no place free to go
I’m paralyzed and collared-tight
No pills for what I fear

This is crazy
I wish I was the moon tonight

Chimney falls and lovers blaze
Thought that I was young
Now I’ve freezing hands & bloodless veins
As numb as I’ve become

I’m so tired,
I wish I was the moon tonight

How will you know if you found me at last
‘Cause I’ll be the one, be the one, be the one
With my heart in my lap
I’m so tired, I’m so tired
And I wish I was the moon tonight

I’m so tired, I’m so tired,
And I wish I was the moon
I’m so tired, I’m so tired,
And I wish I was the moon tonight

I love a good song with some cool or meaningful lyrics.  There is a reoccurring theme of being lost and loneliness that Case sings about.  It appears that loneliness can easily be cured by being the moon which belongs to everyone so to speak.  Being “tired” can be understood as dealing with what life has dealt, like loneliness.  Now I may be taking it a little further than maybe what Case is meaning but songs always effect each of us differently.  I find this song beautiful and fun to sing.
